SHOUPI.JPG (51539 bytes)

This crayfish is the only known species of it's kind in Tennessee or for that matter, on planet earth!  It resides only in the Mill Creek watershed. It's proper name is Orconectes shoupi or commonly known as the Nashville Crayfish. It's habitat is being threatened everyday from development, runoff, erosion and pollution. Urgently I need 100 volunteers!!! Now!!!!   This cannot wait! We need this ASAP.

There is a proposed marina that is going to be built close to the mouth of Mill Creek. They will be removing approx. 650,000 cubic yards of dirt, destroying 2900 feet of riparian, building 225 boat slips from 35 to 110 feet, there will approx ten 2,035 to 3,500 sq. ft. 4 story condos, a theme restaurant, commercial space, approx. 869 parking spaces, pools, and tennis courts. All this on 43 acres. This is something that should be built in Ft. Lauderdale!!!

I have found that the only way to fight for the environment is to use against what is destroying it, against it. That would be money!! I need $50.00 from a hundred individuals, and those people to commit $15.00 a month for as long as it takes to go to battle and win the war. It will be reevaluated after a year. Total amount for each person $230.00. This amount can be reduced as more people come aboard. You can also send more or the whole amount, which would be $5,000.00. Your name can be listed as a "Cumberland Warrior TM" or you can remain anonymous. This money will be deposited in a local bank (SunTrust Bank Bellevue Office, 7121 Hwy. 70 South Bellevue Tn. 37221), or any SunTrust bank in the name of "Cumberland River Fund". Send check or money order to Save The Cumberland P.O. Box 247 Pegram Tn. 37143-0247. Save The Cumberland is a non profit organization 501(c)(3) where every penny goes to the cause, Not for administrative cost of salaries. It is a tax deduction!!!!!!!

Please come forward and realize that going through government agencies, pleading at council meetings, organizing neighborhood groups to protest, and downright begging these developers to stop the destruction is not going to help. The only way to stop it is through litigation.

You will be updated personally by me and included in the fight where necessary. In other words YOU will get the credit not an organization for winning the battle.

For more details call 615-429-5351 or email savthecumberland@mindspring.com. There will be a video shown to anyone interested called "Mill Creek; In Search of shoupi" call for details.

You will see results on this issue and many others in the future. We will stop the marina and anything else that threatens our health and the environment. God Bless, Victor Scoggin "The Cumberland Warrior" Pres. Save The Cumberland

This great blue lives here, along with soft shell turtles, hawks, deer, many species of fish, and other wildlife, including the Nashville Crayfish. All this will be destroyed.
